Electric System Reliability
Maintaining your safety, while delivering consistent and affordable energy to your home is our highest priority. That's why we regularly inspect and test our electric system, making corrections before power-quality problems arise.
Here are some of our electric reliability programs and maintenance.
- TreeWatch program. This nationally-recognized effort has reduced the number of tree-caused power outages by 22 percent.
- Tree wire. This thick-coated power line can withstand contact with tree branches. By installing this tough wire we have helped reduce related power outages by 70 percent.
- Animal guards. We installed about 1,600 animal guards in 2004 and reduced animal-related outages by 35 percent.
- Underground cable remediation. By injecting silicone into underground cables, their lifetime can be extended for 20 years — preventing about 1,000 outages annually.
