Automated Benchmarking
The Energy Star Portfolio Manager is a free web-based tool offered by the EPA that allows building owners and operators to track and assess energy and water consumption of their buildings. Automated Benchmarking is a tool within Portfolio Manager that allows customers to have energy consumption data uploaded to their account from their utilities.
Important
We are happy to report that PSE is in the process of improving our Automated Benchmarking Service that provides energy information to building owners. We have heard from many of you, thank you for your input! We will incorporate your comments into this new and improved energy information system. Our goal is to launch an energy information system that is simple and easy to use, and that provides data on a subscription basis to help you comply with current state laws.
Preparing for Transition
Beginning March 28, 2013 we temporarily stopped the automated energy data uploads that are available to those building owners who use EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager. We anticipate that the new system will be in place on June 30, 2013 when EPA’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager upgrade is completed. We will still be able to process your energy data requests during this transition. All data requests received from March 28th through June 30th will be handled through email until the new system is in place and will take up to 7 business days to process. Please follow the steps below to receive usage data:
Step 1 - Obtain PSE Meter Numbers and Make Request
Compile a list of ALL gas meter numbers serving your building (not meter readings) Meter numbers are on PSE bills and the face of the actual meters.
All natural gas meter numbers and electric meter numbers (click image to enlarge)
IMPORTANT: Release forms are required if you have four (4) or less tenants in your building that each receive PSE service. Each account holder must complete and sign the PSE Customer Data Release Form.
Send the list of gas meters and scanned release forms (if needed) to automatedbenchmarking@pse.com or fax to 425-462-3418.
We recommend collecting the signed forms and sending them as a package to PSE with your meter list. Keep a copy of all information sent to PSE for your records.
Allow up to 7 days for PSE to email you the total whole-building gas use in a spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel .xlsx format). If you need another format, such as PDF, .csv or pasted in an email, let PSE know when requesting. If you do not receive the data call 425-456-2494 or email PSE.
Step 2 - Add PSE Data to Portfolio Manager
Step 3 - Request updated energy data.
PSE only provides a one-time email containing 24 months of usage data. When updated data is needed, please send meter number(s) OR Portfolio Manager Building ID to Automatedbenchmarking@pse.com and the updated data in spreadsheet format will be sent to you.
A note for our Seattle customers:
Certain properties located in Seattle are required to report their energy consumption directly to the City of Seattle on an annual basis. For more information regarding reporting requirements, deadlines, and instructions, visit the City of Seattle’s Energy Disclosure webpage at http://www.seattle.gov/dpd/EnergyDisclosure. Customers located in Seattle will also need to contact Seattle City Light for an “Energy Usage Report” to obtain their electric consumption data.
