PSE warns customers: new email scams target utility consumers
Two new nationwide scams that target utility customers through email are reaching some Puget Sound Energy customers.
Customers have notified us they are receiving fraudulent email bill statements indicating they were sent by San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) or Dallas-based Atmos Energy—both legitimate utilities.
The emails instruct recipients to click on bogus links that will install a virus or take the user to a spam site. If you receive an email from PG&E or Atmos Energy, do not click on the link in the email or open any attachments.
Delete the email immediately.
NOTE: This scam does not affect your Puget Sound Energy account. Your customer information is secure.
