Puget Sound Energy electric transmission project

Novelty Hill - Cottage Brook 115 kV transmission line

Fall 2009 project updates
  • PSE is currently in the permitting phase
  • Construction is expected to begin in 2010
Project Overview

Puget Sound Energy plans to build a new 115 kilovolt transmission line in the Novelty Hill area of unincorporated King County. We will construct the new line within our existing cross-country transmission line corridor between NE Novelty Hill Road and Avondale Road NE. We will not expand the corridor size, but will need to clear some trees to accommodate the new line.

PSE is building the new line to increase the reliability of the electrical system and to meet additional demand, resulting from on-going growth in Redmond and east King County. Adding new transmission lines creates redundancy in the system, thus making it more reliable.

What is a transmission line?

Transmission lines are key elements in the electrical distribution system. The lines safely transport high voltage electricity from power generation sources like dams and wind farms to substations in local communities. Transmission normally takes place at voltages of 55 kV and higher.
