Puget Sound Energy substation project
Juanita substation
Fall 2009 project updates
- Substation construction began in June 2009
- Construction is expected to be complete in December 2009
Project Overview
In an effort increase reliability and meet growing demand for power in the Juanita, Totem Lake and Kingsgate areas of Kirkland, PSE is rebuilding the Juanita substation. The new substation will double the capacity of the existing substation. Due to the existing utility corridor's configuration and design constraints, PSE will shift the location of the new substation from the southern end to the northern section of the corridor. The substation is located at 10910 NE 132nd St. in Kirkland.
What is a substation?
Substations are critical links in the electricity distribution system, containing utility circuit protection, voltage regulation, and equipment that steps down higher voltage to lower voltage. Before reaching homes and businesses, power is routed through our transmission system to a substation where it is changed to a lower voltage that can be utilized by customers.
Committed to keeping you informed
PSE will continue to provide updates to the community. We will notify residents who live near the project area when construction will occur. We aim to complete the work with as little disruption as possible.
