Puget Sound Energy electric transmission project

Baker River to Sedro-Woolley 115 kV transmission line project

Summer 2010 project updates
  • Construction has been postponed
  • We expect to start construction on the north line (Baker 2) as early as 2011 and on the south line (Baker 1) as early as 2013
  • We will notify local residents and business owners when the project moves forward

Project overview

PSE plans to rebuild two 115 kilovolt electric transmission lines between our existing Baker River switching station, 3163 Baker River Road in Concrete, and our existing Sedro-Woolley substation, 24972 Minkler Lake Road in Sedro-Woolley. The project, called the Baker River to Sedro-Woolley 115 kilovolt transmission line project, will entail rebuilding on wood H-frame poles approximately 23 miles of transmission line on either side of our utility corridor.

Originally installed in 1927 and 1959, respectively, the existing Baker No. 1 and Baker No. 2 transmission lines are in need of replacement. By replacing the aging infrastructure with new poles and high-capacity wire, this project will increase the reliability of our electric system and help meet increasing demand for electricity in Skagit County.

What is a transmission line?

Transmission lines are key elements in the electrical distribution system. The lines safely transport high voltage electricity from power generation sources like dams and wind generating facilities to substations in local communities. Transmission normally takes place at voltages of 55 kV and higher.

Committed to keeping you informed

PSE will continue to provide updates to the community. We will notify residents and businesses near the project area when construction will occur. We aim to complete the work with as little disruption as possible.
