Snohomish 8-inch natural gas project
Fall 2009 project updates

PSE expects to begin construction the week of Oct. 26, 2009

Construction is expected to be complete in December 2009
Project overview
As a major component of the region's electrical transmission grid and because of the rapidly changing environmental conditions in Ebey Slough, it was critical that Puget Sound Energy replace its old transmission lines in the slough. The old lines were supported by wood H-frame structures, which were not designed to be in standing water. The environmental aspects of the slough created problems for the stability of the transmission lines. In some cases, anchors and guy wires had pulled out of the soft, saturated soils resulting in unstable structures that were not anchored in load-bearing soil. The Ebey Slough transmission lines are vital to the stability of the region's entire transmission system. In order to protect system safety and reliability, in 2008, PSE replaced the existing, deteriorating poles with new transmission line structures that can withstand the changing conditions of the basin.
How does natural gas get to my home or business?
Natural gas is a fossil fuel composed almost entirely of methane. Interstate pipelines transport natural gas to regional natural gas systems, where it is metered and delivered through a network of local mains, service lines and, ultimately, to customer homes and businesses. Natural gas provides 13 percent of the state's energy.
Committed to keeping you informed
PSE will continue to provide updates to the community. We will notify residents who live near the project area when construction will occur. It is our aim to complete the work with as little disruption as possible.
