PSE recognizes local contractors with Energy Efficiency Action awards for outstanding work with homeowners

Three contractors to take home PSE honors two years in a row

BELLEVUE, Wash. (April 2, 2009) – Consistency and dedication proved to be winning formulas for three local contractors that help local homeowners take advantage of Puget Sound Energy incentives to make energy efficient home improvements that save on electricity and natural gas. The utility announced today that its 2009 Energy Efficiency Action awards will go to three repeat winners of the honor in 2008. Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning and Washington Energy Services in Seattle and Sunset Air, Inc. in Lacey processed the most residential customer energy efficiency rebates in 2008 after receiving the utility’s award last year for processing the most in 2007.

“The fact that the same contractors are the top producers for the second year in a row is even stronger evidence of their commitment to finding energy saving solutions for our shared customers,” said Cal Shirley, vice president of Energy Efficiency Services for PSE. “These local contractors have the winning formula and demonstrate time and time again that they are an essential resource for homeowners making energy efficiency upgrades in PSE’s 11-county service area.”

Each winner earned the distinction for their outstanding performance in helping residential customers save natural gas and electricity. Together, the three contractors installed enough high-efficiency furnaces, water heaters and heat pumps to account for 23 percent of the total rebates given to PSE residential customers. In all, the award-winning contractors performed more than 1,700 energy efficient retrofits for homeowners in 2008. “The Energy Efficiency Action award winners understand that energy-saving measures help customers save money, improve home values, protect the environment, support local jobs and help the economy,” continued Shirley.

Brennan Heating and Sunset Air are both part of PSE’s Contractor Referral Service, a network of local, independent contractors pre-screened by the utility to perform residential customer work that will automatically qualify for PSE rebates.

PSE customers can take advantage of PSE rebates totaling as much as $6,500 for energy efficiency home improvements, including upgrades to windows and doors, insulation installation, purchase of ENERGY STAR rated appliances and water heaters, purchase of energy efficient HVAC equipment such as ENERGY STAR rated natural gas furnaces, air-source heat pumps and ductless heat pump systems, and conversion from electric to natural gas home and water heating.

In 2008, PSE conservation programs saved customers a total of $30 million on their energy bills and supported 450 new jobs in Western Washington, including those for contractors like this year’s winners. PSE customers saved enough energy from conservation actions taken in 2008 to supply 23,000 local homes with electricity and 4,000 with natural gas, and the environmental benefit of their energy savings is the same as taking 38,000 cars off the road for a year.
