PSE to help customers put green back into their wallets on Earth Day and every day
Energy conservation activities planned throughout Western Washington to help customers save energy, money and the earth
BELLEVUE, Wash. (April 21, 2009) – Puget Sound Energy will be helping customers throughout Western Washington take advantage of energy conservation giveaways and rebates at dozens of regional Earth Day events in the days surrounding April 22, 2009, and throughout the year.
“PSE is committed to helping our customers reduce energy costs and put green back into their wallets in this challenging economy and to continuing to help combat climate change,” said Cal Shirley, vice president of Energy Efficiency Services for PSE. “PSE representatives and Energy Advisors will be at more than 25 community events throughout our 11-county, Western Washington service area to mark Earth Day, reaching out directly to customers to show them how to save energy, money and the environment.”
Highlights of PSE’s Earth Day activities will include free compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb giveaways and expanded CFL recycling locations, free efficiency showerheads, information on easy, inexpensive ways to lower home energy use and rebates for home improvements, Green Power Program sign-ups and more.
“As a utility, we’re expanding our resources in wind power, solar power and other forms of renewable energy, and we want to help our customers as they make smart choices in how they will be using energy,” said Shirley. “Together, renewable energy and energy efficiency are a powerful combination.”
Below is a list of the places where PSE will be helping to mark Earth Day celebrations this week with the aim of helping customers put green back into their wallets as well as help save the earth.

In addition to helping customers with easy, inexpensive ways to save energy without sacrificing comfort, PSE offers rebates for energy efficiency home improvements that can total as much as $7,000, which combined with federal stimulus package tax credits could total up to $8,500.
In 2008, PSE conservation programs saved customers a total of $30 million on their energy bills and supported 450 new jobs in Western Washington. PSE customers saved enough energy from conservation actions taken in 2008 to supply 23,000 local homes with electricity and 4,000 with natural gas, and the environmental benefit of their energy savings is the same as taking 38,000 cars off the road for a year. PSE predicts that its energy efficiency programs will save enough energy over the next 20 years to negate the need for building two additional mid-sized, 250-megawatt power plants.
