PSE employees donate to Good Cheer Food Bank

FREELAND, Wash. (Nov. 20, 2008) – With the holidays approaching and many families falling on hard economic times, Puget Sound Energy employees have taken the initiative to provide assistance. PSE employees and contractors in Skagit County joined forces to collect more than 115 pounds of food for South Whidbey’s Good Cheer Food Bank, which will be presented to the organization on Friday, Nov. 21, in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

In addition to the non-perishable food collection, PSE will be adding to the employee campaign with a $500 contribution.

“I’m proud to be able to present this meaningful donation to Good Cheer,” said Walt Blackford, manager of PSE’s South Whidbey Customer Service Office, who will be joined during the presentation by Heather Scott, customer construction representative at PSE’s Skagit Service Center, who helped organize the employee food drive. “We are constantly looking at ways we can extend our commitment to the communities we serve – especially as storm season approaches, and our employees came through with flying colors.”

Friday’s donation is the first of three food bank donations PSE employees in the Skagit Service Center plan to make this season. Since the employees in this facility serve Island, Skagit and Whatcom counties, they decided to hold a food drive for each county. Employees are currently collecting donations for a food bank serving Skagit County and will collect donations in December for a food bank in Whatcom County.

The Good Cheer Food Bank, located at 2812 Grimm Road in Bayview, has been serving the South Whidbey community for 46 years and is the only food bank in South Whidbey.
