PSE Powerful Achievement Awards recognize top Small Business Lighting Program contractors

Awards honor leading local energy efficiency installers and consultants

BELLEVUE, Wash. (June 26, 2008) – Puget Sound Energy (PSE) recently honored four local contractors at the utility’s second annual Powerful Achievement Awards ceremony. Given to the top professionals who install energy efficient lighting in small businesses throughout PSE’s service area, the awards recognize their work which takes advantage of PSE’s small business lighting rebate and incentive programs.

“It’s important that our local contractors be recognized for their tremendous efforts to provide energy efficiency services to our small business customers,” said Cal Shirley, vice president of Energy Efficiency Services for PSE. “They play a vital part in the region’s conservation efforts.”

Recipients of the Powerful Achievement Awards are:

  • CJ Electrical Supply & Services, Tukwila - Platinum Award
  • Energy Conservation Services - a Division of North Coast Electric, Bellingham - Silver Award
  • United Energy Technology, Federal Way - Silver Award
  • Brite Solutions of Ferndale - Best Customer Experience Award

The Powerful Achievement Awards are divided into four categories: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and the Best Customer Experience. The Platinum award is given to the top performing contractor who saves more than 1.5 million kilowatt hours (kWh) over the course of a calendar year. The Gold award is given to the high performing contractor who saves between 1.0-1.5 million kWh, and the Silver award is presented to those who save between 500,000-1.0 million kWh over the course of a calendar year. The Best Customer Experience award recognizes participating contractors for high customer satisfaction and installation quality.

Each award recipient earned the distinction for their outstanding performance in helping small businesses save electricity. Together, the top three contractors with the highest energy savings were responsible for 43 percent of the total estimated electrical savings achieved by PSE’s Small Business Lighting Program in 2007. Total estimated savings amounted to 8 million kWh. In all, the four award-winning participating contractors performed approximately 200 of a total 485 small business retrofits in 2007.

Small businesses include a broad spectrum of businesses such as office, warehouse, retail, service organizations, congregations and government buildings. Businesses served by PSE electric Schedules 24 or 8 qualify. Typically these businesses have 80 or fewer lighting fixtures.

Energy efficiency is a vital part of the PSE’s strategy to meet increasing energy demands in the growing Puget Sound region and protect the environment, with the target of displacing 53.3 average megawatts (aMW) of generation and 5.3 million therms of natural gas over the next two years. Using PSE incentives, PSE customers during the past five years have more than doubled their annual electricity savings and more than tripled their natural gas savings. PSE customers can obtain energy efficiency information and assistance from PSE by visiting PSE.com, or by calling a PSE Energy Advisor at 1-800-562-1482.
