Electrical fires
- Use a B-C rated* fire extinguisher or baking soda to put out a small fire. Never use water on an electrical fire.
- If an electrical fire starts at a wall outlet, shut off electricity to the outlet by turning off the circuit breaker or removing the fuse. If necessary, turn off the main switch.
- If the fire is out of control, evacuate the building. From a neighbor's house, call 911 for the fire department. Be sure to indicate that you have an electrical fire.
Natural gas fires
- Do not attempt to put out a fire ignited by a natural gas leak.
- Evacuate the building.
- From a neighbor's house, call 911.
- Then call PSE Customer Service at 1.888.225.5773.
