Service Outages

Restoring service

PSE is committed to providing safe, reliable electric and natural gas services. There will occasionally be power outages and gas emergencies, and PSE has staff and procedures ready to respond.

We monitor weather forecasts to prepare for possible weather-related power outages.

In the beginning of a widespread outage, PSE gathers data from customers who call in to report outages, and we send staff and equipment to the affected areas.

During the outage, we monitor the electrical system throughout our service area. Assessment crews travel through the affected areas and report damage. Repair crews are then dispatched to repair the equipment.

When restoring power, we give first priority to insuring public safety. We then restore power to community first responders (fire, police and hospitals), then areas that result in restoring power to the most customers.

Our staff will stay on duty until every customer has services safely restored.

Emergency Operations Center

When major events such as storms or earthquakes occur, a core team coordinates and manages PSE's response to the event from the PSE Emergency Operations Center (EOC). From the EOC, employees monitor storm damage information, request additional personnel and equipment, coordinate media communications, update information on PSE.com, and assist with customer communications at the call center.

Field crews provide early information on the extent of storm damage. At the EOC, staff incorporate crew and customer reports with automated systems to monitor the scope of an outage, direct repair efforts, and develop restoration estimates.

Under mutual assistance agreements, crews may be drawn from neighboring utilities, across the border or from around the country.

Emergency staffing continues around the clock until service is restored.
