Incentives for Lodging Facilities

Most lodging facilities need to operate around the clock, hosting guests and events, while offering a variety of services. Guest rooms, public lobbies, banquet facilities, restaurants, lounges, offices, and retail stores fill the hotel and motel buildings. Hotel ice machines, laundries and kitchens are typically large energy users. The variety of services and amenities provided and the need for continuous operations mean that lodging facilities have excellent opportunities for energy savings.

PSE understands the needs of hotel and motel facility operators and offers incentives to help with the upfront costs of energy-efficiency upgrades. Whether their facility is a large convention hotel, part of a national or international chain, or a small inn or motel, leaders in the hospitality industry throughout the Puget Sound Region are putting the power of energy efficiency to work for improving their bottom line and increasing guest satisfaction.

Lodging industry rebates

Hotels and motels can reduce their energy costs through measures such as lighting upgrades, the installation of high-efficiency Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs), HVAC occupancy-based controls, high-efficiency commercial washing machines, and commercial kitchen equipment.

Energy-efficient commercial lighting

PSE offers rebates and grants for a variety of energy-efficient lighting options. Rebates are available for LEDs, low-wattage T8 fluorescents, new fixtures, lighting controls, LED exit signs and more. Custom measure opportunities are available as well. High-efficiency packaged terminal heat pumps: $100 rebates

Qualifying Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHP) are eligible for a rebate if they exceed the current Washington State Energy Code by a minimum of ten percent and replace an existing Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner (PTAC) or PTHP unit. New construction customers are not eligible for this rebate.

HVAC occupancy controls: $100 rebates

PSE lodging electric customers who purchase qualifying HVAC controls are eligible for a rebate of $100 per room controlled. HVAC occupancy controls must be stand-alone with automatic unoccupied setback capabilities or a networked guestroom control with similar capabilities. Unoccupied set points must be a minimum of five degrees Fahrenheit above and below the occupied set point. These unoccupied set points do not come factory programmed and will need to be manually set to qualify for rebate. Additionally, the existing HVAC system must be all electric PTAC, PTHP or fan coil systems with electric strip heat. This rebate is available in retrofit applications. New construction customers are eligible only if the facility has 50 guest rooms or less.

High-efficiency commercial clothes washers: $75 rebates

PSE offers a $75 rebate for the purchase of high-efficiency commercial clothes washers to customers who heat their water with PSE supplied electricity or natural gas. Eligible commercial washers must be ENERGY STAR® qualified. Go here to read more about this program offering .

Commercial kitchen equipment: $100 - $2,000 rebates

Whether your facility offers free breakfast, room service or other restaurant choices, commercial kitchen equipment often accounts for a large portion of a lodging facility's energy use. PSE offers rebates for a wide variety of commercial kitchen equipment that are commonly used in hotels and motels including but not limited to ice machines, dishwashers, and ovens.
