​LED Traffic Signal Rebates

 
Puget Sound Energy offers rebates to agencies operating traffic signals using electricity supplied by PSE. Agencies are eligible when they replace incandescent traffic signal lighting with LED modules.

Longer life LED traffic lights reduce maintenance, replacement costs and cut power usage up to 90 percent compared to incandescent lamps. Since December 31, 2007, only traffic signal retrofits of existing intersections have been eligible for this rebate.

Signal type Rebate amount
Red LED: ball or arrow upgrade $10 each
Green LED: ball or arrow upgrade $20 each
Yellow LED: module upgrade $5 each
Pedestrian LED: crossing signal $10 each


Installing LED signals will:

  • Save on your energy bills; up to 90 percent reduction in power compared to incandescent lamps
  • Greatly reduce maintenance costs for replacing failed lamps; LEDs last five times
    as long
  • Provide uniform illumination, and better visibility in many cases
    • Signals must meet minimum specifications based on the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) standards for LED traffic signals
 

Eligibility

Non-residential, PSE customers who purchase and install qualified LED traffic signal modules are eligible. The electricity to power signals must be provided by PSE. For details about the rebate, call a PSE Energy Advisor at 1-800-562-1482.


How to participate

Step 1. Obtain PSE pre-authorization
  • Complete the rebate application including your PSE account number, and signature.
  • Make a copy for your records
  • Mail or fax the completed and signed application to PSE
  • We'll process your application when we receive it
  • Authorizations are noted at the bottom of the application on the copy returned to you;
    be sure to save this copy for Step 3
    • Eligible applications submitted without pre-approval will receive payment provided funding is available

Step 2. Install LED modules in your traffic signals

Step 3. Submit your application for payment
  • Complete the rebate application
  • Complete the LED rebate worksheets with PSE account numbers and locations of installed LED modules
  • Include copies of invoices for LED replacement modules
  • Make a copy for your records
  • Mail or fax your rebate application to PSE, along with signed and dated invoices/receipts and LED signal rebate worksheets
  • Funding availability is subject to annual program budgets
 
PSE reserves the right to inspect installations for compliance prior to payment.
