Severe weather is forecasted for our service area this afternoon and evening. We are closely monitoring conditions and impacts to our system, and are prepared to respond to power outages with increased staffing this afternoon and evening, as soon as it is safe to do so.

As we prepare for storm conditions, we encourage our customers to do the same:

  • Make sure to have emergency supplies on hand at home and in your vehicle, such as extra batteries, flashlights and food
  • Have a battery-powered radio ready to go
  • Charge cell phones and mobile devices in case the power goes out
  • Avoid opening and closing refrigerators and freezers more often than necessary. A closed refrigerator will stay cold for up to 12 hours.
  • Turn off lights and unplug all appliances and sensitive electronic equipment, such as computers, to prevent an overload on your circuits when electric service is restored. Leave one light on to let you know when service returns.

Earn incentives for secondary windows

Installing secondary windows, or attachments to existing windows, is a great way to increase the energy efficiency of your commercial building’s envelope. It’s a lower-cost upgrade compared to full window replacement, and our Commercial Secondary Windows program incentives further offset costs. Read more about the benefit of secondary windows.

What you get

Our incentives for commercial secondary windows are predominately driven by energy savings that occur from reduced HVAC loads. Therefore, buildings with electric resistance heating and/or natural gas heating (e.g., boilers, packaged rooftop units, furnaces, etc.) may all be well-suited. Incentives apply to existing buildings only.

How you qualify

To be eligible for the Commercial Secondary Windows program:

  • Your business site must be within PSE's service area.
  • The project must be reviewed by PSE staff before a grant is guaranteed.
  • Your business must receive service from PSE (gas or electric) for system(s) serving a majority of heating load within the building(s).
  • Your secondary windows must be listed on the AERC QPL or be approved by PSE staff.

These increased incentive amounts are a limited-time offer through Dec. 31, 2024, subject to change by PSE. All projects with approved grants through the end of 2024 will have 24 months to complete their installation and receive an incentive. Incentive amount will be determined prior to the installation and verified upon completion of the project by PSE staff. A true‐up of energy savings may occur upon completion, but the incentive amount will not be reduced.

How you apply

To apply for a Commercial Secondary Windows incentive, complete the online custom retrofit grant application.

A PSE engineer will review your application and coordinate meetings between PSE and your team to discuss design decisions and project specifics. Your project's design details are reviewed so that PSE can determine your eligibility, make energy‐efficiency recommendations and estimate your grant value.

What are the benefits of secondary windows?

Secondary windows, often referred to as attachments, are panels that mount directly to the window frame, either on the interior or exterior side of an existing window. Commercial secondary windows (CSWs) provide increased thermal performance for the existing windows by adding an additional layer of glazing. In addition to increased envelope performance, CSWs are popular due to their lower cost and easier installation when compared to conventional window replacement. CSWs may also provide reduced sun glare, noise reduction from exterior conditions, and improve occupant comfort. CSW manufacturers are now creating products with major improvements from the storm windows of the past.

Buildings with ideal existing conditions for CSWs typically have single or double pane glass with no tinting or low‐e coating. The existing window frames should be in good condition and glass on the existing windows should not be broken. Historical buildings, fixed-frame windows, and/or difficult-to-access exterior windows (e.g., high/mid‐rise) are all popular cases for this technology.
