PSE rolls out first of several public EV charging stations

BELLEVUE, Wash. (9/17/2020) Lacey is the location of the first charging station in the service area

Puget Sound Energy is launching a fast, convenient and green way for drivers to charge the over 60,000 electric vehicles currently traveling Washington’s roads.

PSE's new electric vehicle program, “Up & Go Electric,” has installed its first-ever public charging station, which opens Sept. 17 at the Hub at Lacey (676 Woodland Square Loop SE). The station is part of PSE’s commitment to building a better energy future by making it easier for drivers to charge an electric vehicle.

Fast and convenient

The station is located near I-5 and downtown Lacey. Boasting multiple Level 2 and DC fast chargers, the station can charge up to six EVs simultaneously. The DC fast chargers in particular can fully charge an EV in less than an hour.

A greener way to charge

Electricity purchased at the station is matched with 100 percent renewable energy through our Green Power program, setting our Up & Go Electric public charging station apart from other charging stations as a greener way to charge.

Easy to use

All drivers – not just PSE customers – can use the brand new Up & Go Electric app to take advantage of simple mobile payment options, monitor their charging session remotely, and more.

“The launch of our first public charging station is an exciting milestone for PSE,” said Will Einstein, Director of Product Development and Growth at PSE. “It’s the first of many Up & Go Electric public charging stations we will install in our service area, offering our customers and all drivers a faster and greener way to charge their EV when on the go.”

MJR Development, owner of the Hub at Lacey, has been installing public charging stations on its properties in the region.

“We appreciated the opportunity to work with Puget Sound Energy to add green energy investments,” said Mark Lahaie, partner at MJR. “These fast charging stations will be available to our tenants and visitors 24-7. We look forward to continuing our partnership with PSE in the future.”

PSE Up & Go Electric plans to open more public charging stations in King, Kitsap, Whatcom and other counties where infrastructure is needed to help meet customer demand for more charging options. In addition, PSE is currently installing charging stations at workplaces and multifamily residences through other Up & Go Electric pilot programs.
