Opportunity Council receives PSE grant for solar panels
The panels will be installed at the G Street Apartments

BELLEVUE, Wash. (6/24/2019) Puget Sound Energy has awarded the Opportunity Council in Bellingham a grant to install solar panels at one of its rental properties.

Puget Sound Energy has awarded the Opportunity Council in Bellingham a grant to install solar panels at one of its rental properties.

The solar panels have been installed at Opportunity Council’s G Street Apartment Building. The 31 kilowatt project is expected to produce enough energy to power the entire fourplex over the course of a year.

"This partnership with PSE helps families experience greater housing stability through reduced energy costs in a way that is climate friendly. It's a win for everyone,” said Greg Winter, executive director at Opportunity Council.

Along with Opportunity Council, PSE awarded nearly $465,000 in solar grants to HopeSource in Cle Elum and the King County Housing Authority to install the solar panels on five affordable multi-family housing facilities the three organizations own and operate. These organizations were chosen for their work with families in need.

The Washington State University Energy Program, through its Community Energy Efficiency Program, helped provide half of the funding for this project. The other half comes from PSE’s Green Power program, which allows customers to reduce their personal carbon footprint while supporting the development of renewable energy in the region.

“We are continuing our commitment to the communities we serve by choosing to work with Community Action Agencies that have a track record of serving people in need,” said Will Einstein, director of product development and growth. “By funding these solar projects on multi-family housing, not only are we supporting their core mission, but also helping to reduce their energy costs -- returning savings to their tenants, and reducing their carbon footprint.”

As part of PSE’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and help our customers do their part, these solar projects are another step we’re taking with the community to preserve and protect the environment for a better energy future.
