March Windstorm Event

We know being without power is difficult, especially with cold temperatures, and we appreciate your patience. Crews are out in full force working around the clock to make repairs to our electric system as weather has improved and safe access has been established in most areas. We have also brought in additional crews to help us assess damage and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

Below are updates and current estimated restoration times for hard-hit areas:

  • In Skykomish, crews continue to work on the electric system that feeds the town from the west. Today we were able to patrol the area by helicopter and found extensive damage on the east side of town which still requires repair. Nine crews are actively working to repair damage previously discovered on the west side of town to begin to restore power.
  • In Greenwater, we have identified many areas of damage on the transmission line that serves the area. We do not yet have an estimated restoration time but crews are still actively assessing the extensive damage done to the electric system as we are able. We currently have five crews working in Greenwater to repair accessible damage.
  • In King County, we continue to assess the damage from intense snowfall yesterday. Today we continued to find damage to the system including trees in lines which require removal before repair work can begin. We expect most customers will have their power restored by March 15th at 8 p.m.

About efficiency

Puget Sound Energy provides a variety of services and incentives to help our customers save energy and money. No other Northwest utility has helped its customers save more energy than PSE. Our energy-efficiency programs have helped PSE customers conserve nearly 5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and almost 50 million therms of natural gas.

But we're not done. Our customers' energy needs are growing. And one of the best, most cost-effective ways to meet their needs is to invest in programs that help people use energy as efficiently as possible—to get more with less. So, in consultation with our regulators, environmental groups, customers and other stakeholders, we're building on our energy efficiency heritage and expanding our conservation services. Over the next two decades, we see the potential to help our customers save another 440 average-megawatts of electricity and 70 million therms of natural gas.

Our conservation programs run the gamut, from rebates for homeowners on energy-efficient furnaces and appliances, to engineering consultation for commercial and industrial projects, to tailored grants for retrofits and upgrades in energy-intensive buildings.
