Weekend weather forecasts may require us to turn on Enhanced Powerline Settings in Kittitas County. These settings are designed to help keep you safe, but they may result in unplanned power outages.

Given the holiday, we've also added additional staffing for first responders and our operations center. Please be safe and do your part to prevent wildland fires. See this flyer from Washington State's Department of Natural Resources for important safety tips.

Safety first:

  • Never touch or go within 35 feet of downed power lines because they might be energized.
  • Call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 to report problems.
  • If you’re using portable heaters, keep them away from furniture, draperies and other flammable materials.
  • Always use flashlights instead of candles.
  • Be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning: Never install or use a generator indoors or in enclosed or partially enclosed areas, even those that are ventilated.

Our region’s demand for energy is growing, which can sometimes put stress on the electrical grid. To address this, we use a strategy known as demand response. This approach helps manage energy consumption during periods of high demand, which we refer to as “Flex events.” During these times, there are several ways that PSE's business customers can participate in reducing energy usage—and earn rewards for doing so.

How it works

During critical periods of high demand, PSE might need to activate short-term generators that are costlier and more carbon-intensive than our standard facilities. Grid strain and peak demand can be due to extreme weather, wholesale price spikes, or unexpected system issues. By taking actions to reduce your energy use during Flex events, such as temporarily adjusting schedules for power-intensive equipment, you help to lessen the grid’s need for those less-efficient, temporary power sources. Your efforts will collectively contribute to smoothing out demand, which helps us continue to transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy resources.

You’ll receive notifications about Flex events via email, text, or phone call and you’ll earn rewards for taking steps to lower your energy use during specific hours on certain days (delivered as gift cards, checks, or ACH payments). By working together, we can reduce spikes in demand and ensure stable and reliable energy for our community.
