Puget Sound Energy partners with Port of Bellingham for newest Community Solar project
New installation at Zuanich Point Park marks PSE's 14th Community Solar site, offers renewable energy access to local residents

Bellevue, Washington (6/2/2026) Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and the Port of Bellingham have partnered to install PSE’s 14th Community Solar site, allowing customers in the Whatcom County area to subscribe to renewable energy.

The installation on the Fisherman’s Pavilion roof at Zuanich Point Park will host the solar array and feature 100 kilowatts of AC power, enabling subscribers to share the benefits of solar without the need to install or maintain their own rooftop solar array.

“This project reflects the Port’s commitment to sustainability and building a cleaner energy future for Whatcom County,” said Port Executive Director Tiffany DeSimone. “The Port is proud to partner with Puget Sound Energy to expand access to clean, renewable energy in our region. The Fishermen’s Pavilion is a highly visible location, and the community solar program is a cost-effective way for the Port to continue to support local renewable energy generation while advancing the goals and strategies outlined in our Climate Strategy.”

PSE will offer 68 shares of clean solar energy available to interested customers, with 47 set aside for low-income customers at no cost to them. If you enroll in Community solar, you reduce your carbon footprint and become part of a community that's committed to creating a cleaner energy future for our region.

"We're thrilled to work with the Port of Bellingham and our other partners to bring our latest Community Solar site to Whatcom County," said John Mannetti, Director of Customer Energy Innovation at PSE. "This installation at Zuanich Point Park represents our commitment to making clean energy accessible to all customers, regardless of their housing situation or income level."

The solar array at Fisherman’s Pavilion was a result of a collaboration between PSE, the Port of Bellingham, Cascadia Renewables and Western Solar, inc.

“We’re proud to help deliver projects that make clean energy more accessible and visible within our community,” said Evan Bush, VP of Commercial Sales and Operations at Western Solar. “Partnerships like this demonstrate how local utilities, public organizations, and experienced regional contractors can work together to build practical energy solutions that directly benefit the people who live here.”

The Community Solar program launched in 2021 with its first site, followed by two additional sites in 2022. Since then, the program has expanded to 14 sites with more planned for the future. Learn more about Community Solar.

A ribbon cutting event took place on June 2, 2026 to dedicate the new Community Solar project.
