Puget Sound Energy Family Support Center of South Sound celebrate new solar array

PSE Green Power grants helped fund the 50 -kilowatt project

Puget Sound Energy and the Family Support Center of South Sound are hosting a ribbon cutting to celebrate a new solar array installation, made possible in part by PSE’s Green Power Solar Grant program.

This grant helped Family Support Center of South Sound install a 50.20-kilowatt solar array on its new 62-unit permanent housing facility with a supportive services project. The solar array is estimated to generate more than 55,000 kilowatt-hours a year, which will help them focus less on their utility bill and more on serving the community.

Family Support Center of South Sound provides more than 4,000 parents, children and survivors of domestic violence with coordinated support services in one location. The Family Support Center is diligently working to end family homelessness, poverty, and family violence through its programs and services.

“The Landing is the result of a number of organizations coming together to provide a critical resource for our community - affordable housing. FSC was excited to work with PSE to help create a more sustainable building for our families to live in," said Trish Gregory, the Executive Director Family Support Center of South Sound."

Earlier this year, PSE announced it distributed $782,600 to nine local organizations and tribes across its service area as part of its Green Power Solar Grant program.

Grant recipients include local non-profits and tribal entities serving low-income and Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) community members. In addition to saving recipients money on their utilities, the projects will advance access to clean energy in the region.

Historically, Thurston County has received nearly $700,000 in GPSG awards since 2017.

“These solar panels will reduce Family Support Center’s operational costs, allowing them to focus more on providing affordable housing for families with children and survivors of domestic violence,” said John Mannetti, Director of Customer Energy Innovation at PSE. “Solar arrays like this are how we strive to bring our community with us on the transition to a clean energy future.”

PSE has provided $4.8 million in grant funding over the last seven years, resulting in over 2.2 million kWh of estimated annual solar generation. PSE’s Green Power Solar Grant program will release another competitive funding cycle in summer 2024.
