Easy, convenient EV charging for everyone

Starting in 2035, all new passenger cars and trucks sold in Washington state will be electric. But, recent analysis from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory found 25% of residents don’t have a place to charge at home.

With Up & Go Electric for Public Pole Charging, PSE is partnering with local communities to ensure all residents have access to easy, convenient electric vehicle charging near where they live, work and play.

Pole Charging Trio

What is pole charging?

Unlike other PSE public charging stations, pole-mounted chargers are attached to curbside streetlights and utility poles. This increases the number of locations where chargers can be installed and saves on installation costs.

The chargers’ cords retract to keep them out of the way of pedestrians, and drivers use an app or debit/credit card to lower the chargers and pay.

These Level 2 chargers can add 10 to 25 miles of range to an electric vehicle’s battery per hour of charging. You can learn about the different types of EV charging here.

Helping drivers go electric with confidence

Pole-mounted chargers can help drivers be confident in their ability to switch to an electric vehicle when the time is right.

  • Access to charging for drivers living in apartments and condos
  • Convenient locations near businesses, parks and libraries
  • Available 24/7 for all EV drivers
  • Ability to charge while shopping and running errands at local businesses
