PSE continues to help families and the environment through its ‘Powerful Partnerships’ program

BELLEVUE, Wash. (3/16/2021) Puget Sound Energy is donating $190,000 across 17 organizations that focus on workforce development and the environment.

Puget Sound Energy is committed to help organizations that are working to support the environment and workforce development through its “Powerful Partnerships” program, now in its fifth year. This year, PSE will distribute $190,000 across 17 nonprofit organizations over its 6,000 square mile service area.

In addition to providing funding to the nonprofits, PSE will also partner with them to educate their clients, employees and donors on ways to save energy and money on their bills, as well as safety and emergency preparedness. These partnerships allow PSE to enhance community engagement and awareness by focusing its giving efforts.

“With the difficult year brought on by the pandemic, we felt it was important to help organizations that are focused on economic recovery like those supporting workforce development,” said PSE Vice President of Communications Andy Wappler. “Our commitment to the environment hasn’t wavered during the pandemic, so the partnerships we focused on this year speaks to our commitment to help both the environment and communities to secure a better energy future for all.”

One of PSE’s partners this year is South King Tool Library (SKTL), an organization which provides access to tools and training to help maintain neighborhoods and build community all while reducing unnecessary consumption.

"Puget Sound Energy has partnered with South King Tool Library (SKTL) long before we opened our doors for tool lending in June 2020, providing volunteers and energy efficiency information at our public events,” said Amanda Miller Executive Director of SKTL. “We know our organizations share the key values of serving our communities and preserving our planet.”

Saint Martin University, another PSE Powerful Partner this year, plans to use its funds to empower students to pursue a lifetime of learning and accomplishment in all arenas of human endeavor.

“Saint Martin's Un iversity is honored to be a recipient of the Puget Sound Energy Powerful Partners grant for workforce development,” said Dr. Roy F. Heynderickx Saint Martin’s University President. “The grant will enhance our career development program, Saints Promise, to reach even more students with direct career support. We pride ourselves on the education and experience we provide students to successfully enter the workforce after graduation.”

PSE is committed to working together to create a clean energy future for all while setting an aspirational goal to be a Beyond Net Zero Carbon company by 2045. PSE will target reducing its own carbon emissions to net zero and go beyond by helping other sectors to enable carbon reduction across the state of Washington. Partnering with community organizations like these helps PSE engage more people in that mission.
