Heavy rain, isolated thunderstorms and strong wind gusts are expected from today into Tuesday, with the highest risk early Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon. These conditions may cause power outages.

Many trees are fully flushed with leaves. In stiff and gusty winds, that means they can topple more easily and damage power equipment, and branches can take flight and hit power lines.

Our crews are preparing and ready to respond as conditions allow. If outages occur, it can take at least 24 hours after the weather has passed to provide an initial estimated restoration time. Our first step is damage assessment—understanding the extent of damage and what repairs need to be made—once it is safe to do so.

alert

Safety first:

  • Never touch or go within 35 feet of downed power lines because they might be energized.
  • Call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 to report problems.
  • If you’re using portable heaters, keep them away from furniture, draperies and other flammable materials.
  • Always use flashlights instead of candles.
  • Be aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning: Never install or use a generator indoors or in enclosed or partially enclosed areas, even those that are ventilated.

Major HVAC Controls

Earn incentives for adding or upgrading efficient controls

HVAC controls are valuable energy-efficient upgrades that produce significant savings in HVAC system energy usage over time. Our Major HVAC Controls program offers incentives for installing three or more energy-efficient control sequences. Incentives can cover up to 50% of your total project cost.

What you get

Your incentive amount is based on the utility services you receive from PSE (electric-only, dual-fuel or gas-only), the energy use of your facility, and the verified savings. There is a guaranteed base incentive after installation and successful verification. An additional performance incentive is given after the controls are in place for at least 12 months and the minimum savings target is met. Current incentive rates are listed below.

Electric and dual-fuel incentives
Maximum total incentive
Natural gasUp to 50% of total project cost*

Base incentive**
Natural gas$0.45 per kWh saved
Natural gas$8 per therm saved
Natural gasUp to 35% of total project cost

Performance incentive
Performance incentive amounts are based on actual first-year whole-building savings that are greater than the savings claimed by the base incentive. The performance incentive supplements the base incentive up to the maximum total incentive.

Gas-only incentives
Maximum total incentive
Natural gasUp to 25% of total project cost*

Base incentive**
Natural gas$8 per therm saved
Natural gasUp to 15% of total project cost

Performance incentive
Performance incentive amounts are based on actual first-year whole-building savings that are greater than the savings claimed by the base incentive. The performance incentive supplements the base incentive up to the maximum total incentive.

*The total incentive is the base incentive plus the performance incentive. ** Base incentive amounts are based on 3-5% whole-building savings, depending on the added and/or improved sequences of operation. Whole-building energy use may exclude large/uncontrollable process loads like data centers.

How you qualify

To be eligible for a Major HVAC Controls incentive:

  • You must be a PSE electric and/or gas customer
  • Your building must be at least 20,000 square feet and have building-level metering. If there is no energy metering at the building level, you may be eligible for up to $7,000 to install building-level metering to assist in determining actual building performance.
  • You must be adding or improving sequences of operation, including bringing all existing sequences of operation up to WA State Energy Code.
  • If you are not the customer of record, obtain a signed data release from the customer for all affected accounts.
  • Fill out the PSE HVAC Controls Worksheet, focusing on the Worksheet tab.
  • To schedule a scope review meeting with PSE, or if you are unsure of your project’s eligibility after completing the PSE HVAC Controls Worksheet, email PSE at commissioning@pse.com.
  • You must receive pre-approval from PSE prior to beginning installation
  • A facility guide must be completed and shared with PSE and onsite operations staff or building management, along with documentation demonstrating that training was provided. Facility guide requirements are provided on the facility guide tab of the HVAC Controls Worksheet.

How you apply

To get pre-approved for a Major HVAC Controls incentive:

  • Complete the online custom retrofit grant application.
  • Please include the HVAC Controls Worksheet and any proposals, cost estimates, and information about existing building operations. These documents can be uploaded into the online application form from the Supporting Documents section.
