Fire Weather Forecasted

Due to current weather forecasts, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for Kittitas Valley. As part of PSE’s wildfire safe operations, we will be turning on system settings that are more sensitive to potential hazards. These sensitive settings will be activated Friday morning and will remain in effect as long as elevated wildfire risk conditions persist.

Enhanced Powerline Settings are designed to help keep you safe, but they may result in unplanned power outages.

This is NOT a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), where we proactively turn off power in advance of severe weather.

We understand the impact unexpected outages can have on our customers, so we've added additional staffing for our first responders and our operations center. For more information or to report a power outage, visit PSE’s Outage map.

Due to numerous wildfires in eastern and central Washington, air quality across the Kittitas Valley is currently within the unhealthy range. Wildfire smoke can seriously affect health, especially for high-risk individuals. To learn more about how to protect yourself and others, please visit the Washington State Department of Health page on staying safe from smoke.

Safety first. Never touch or go within 35 feet of downed power lines because they might be energized. Call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 to report problems.

Puget Sound Energy launches Request for Proposals to reduce natural gas emissions
The 2026 Gas Decarbonization RFP seeks projects to cut greenhouse gas emissions while reducing customer costs

Bellevue, Washington (5/21/2026) Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has announced the launch of its 2026 Gas Decarbonization Request for Proposals (Gas Decarb RFP), a competitive solicitation process seeking projects that will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the company's natural gas distribution system while lowering costs for customers.

The RFP, funded through Washington State's Climate Commitment Act (CCA) program, may award up to $40 million to qualifying projects.

Key RFP Priorities

PSE has established two primary objectives for the Gas Decarb RFP:

  • Identify and fund projects that reduce emissions from PSE's natural gas distribution system
  • Reduce costs for PSE natural gas customers by lowering the company's CCA compliance expenses
Commitment to Inclusive Participation

PSE is committed to conducting an accessible and fair process for all respondents. Carbon Direct serves as the independent evaluator of this Gas Decarb RFP. Carbon Direct is a trusted energy and climate solutions company that combines world-class scientific expertise, technical rigor, and market insights to help clients achieve their business goals.

Regulatory Background

The Gas Decarb RFP is funded through revenue generated from PSE's participation in Washington State's Climate Commitment Act, which established a comprehensive cap-and-invest program to reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions. Under the CCA, PSE receives no-cost allowances that are consigned to auction, with proceeds benefiting ratepayers through programs like this RFP.

The complete RFP documentation is available on PSE's 2026 Gas Decarbonization Request for Proposals website. Interested parties are encouraged to review the full requirements and submission guidelines.

PSE reserves the right to modify or terminate the RFP process at any time and has no obligation to enter into agreements with any particular bidder.
