Weatherization rebates
Save hundreds of dollars when you weatherize your home
Weatherization is the foundation of a home’s energy efficiency. Weatherization prevents the loss of warm or cool air through unseen leaks and seams. It’s an easy, cost-effective way to increase the comfort of your home while saving money and energy.
-
Overview & Benefits
What is weatherization?
- Weatherization involves improving your home’s energy efficiency by sealing air leaks and adding insulation. These upgrades help create a thermal barrier that keeps conditioned air inside and outdoor temperatures outside, reducing the workload on your heating or cooling system.
Why weatherize your home?
- Weatherizing your home addresses energy waste at its source. Many homes lose significant energy through gaps, cracks, and insufficient insulation, forcing heating and cooling systems to work harder and consume more energy than necessary.
Energy savings and comfort benefits
- Weatherization delivers dual benefits: lower energy bills and improved comfort. By reducing air leaks and improving insulation, you’ll experience fewer drafts, more consistent temperatures throughout your home, and reduced energy consumption year-round.
Environmental impact
- Weatherization reduces your home’s carbon footprint by decreasing energy consumption. When your home requires less heating and cooling, you’re using fewer natural resources and contributing to environmental conservation efforts.

Project Types & Options
Insulation (attic, walls, floors)
- Proper insulation acts as a thermal barrier in key areas where heat transfer occurs most. Attic, wall, and floor insulation work together to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures while reducing energy waste.
Air sealing
- Air sealing eliminates gaps and cracks that allow conditioned air to escape and outdoor air to enter. This process targets unseen openings around things like plumbing pipes, electrical wires, and lighting fixtures in your attic and crawlspace.
Duct sealing
- Duct sealing prevents heated or cooled air from escaping through leaks in your HVAC system’s ductwork. This ensures conditioned air reaches its intended destination rather than being lost in unconditioned spaces like garages, attics, etc.
Ventilation
- Proper ventilation helps regulate the temperature and prevent the build-up of moisture in your freshly air sealed and insulated attic or crawlspace. Balanced ventilation systems ensure fresh air circulation without compromising your home’s thermal performance.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Common weatherization mistakes include inadequate air sealing, insufficient insulation coverage, and ignoring moisture management. PSE-recommend contractors help avoid these pitfalls that can compromise performance and create problems.
Low-cost steps you can do yourself
- If you want to take advantage of rebates, you must have weatherization work done through PSE-recommended contractors. However, you can still perform basic weatherization tasks like caulking around windows and doors.
