Federal Way Link Extension Project Overview
In conjunction with Sound Transit’s Federal Way Link Extension light rail project—and to ensure we continue to deliver safe and reliable energy to you and your neighbors – Puget Sound Energy and our contractors have been working to underground and relocate existing above-ground electrical and natural gas infrastructure along the light-rail route.
2021 Project Overview
What PSE customers can expect:
- Occasional reduced travel lanes and intermittent road closures.
- Construction signage, temporary traffic detours and pedestrian detours along the project route.
- Typical construction noise and heavy machinery along the route.
- Some customers may experience a brief, planned power outage as part of this work. All impacted customers will be notified of any planned outages in advance.
Upcoming Work March-April 2021
Crews are continuing to work on undergrounding the overhead electric system at the new SR 509 and SR 99 bypass. Electric and civil crews will also be setting 146 foot glulam poles (approved by the FAA) to assist the overhead portion of the light rail along 30th Avenue South, close to Interstate 5, as well as working to relocate transmission lines within this area.
