Enrollment is available to all residential customers who have an AMI meter, whose electricity is provided by PSE, and who have a qualifying electric vehicle model or Level 2 charger.

Customers who are currently enrolled in a TOU rate plan (Sch. 307 or Sch. 327) are eligible to simultaneously enroll in Flex Rewards/Flex Smart/Flex EV and TOU. If you have any questions, contact TOU@pse.com.

PSE’s Flex EV program customer service is handled by different organizations, depending on which EV home charger or electric vehicle with which you enrolled into the program. Refer to the Flex EV customer support contact list for the fastest possible support.

Enrolling requires that your home be equipped with an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meter, the current standard for metering technology that facilitates two-way communication between meters and PSE. As part of PSE’s Meter Upgrade Project, nearly 2 million meters in our service area were upgraded to AMI between 2018 and 2023. For more information, please visit the Meter Upgrade Project.

If you have opted out of PSE communication with your meter, you will be ineligible to enroll or unenrolled if previously enrolled in a PSE Flex program.

You cannot be enrolled in Flex EV and Flex Rewards at the same time. However, if you’re in Flex EV and you own a smart thermostat, you can also enroll your thermostat in the Flex Smart program.

Yes, you can enroll multiple electric vehicles in Flex EV and participate if your household owns more than one. However, you’ll only receive an enrollment reward for one. Multiple cars can contribute to load shed and earn kWh incentives during Flex Events.

Yes, if your household has multiple EV chargers, you can receive an enrollment reward for each of them.

A Flex event is a period when PSE identifies an opportunity for customers to help support the electric grid by temporarily reducing electricity use.

There is no single condition that triggers a Flex event. PSE evaluates a variety of factors across the electric system, including: electricity demand, resource availability, energy market conditions, and weather. When these conditions indicate that reducing demand would benefit our electric grid, a Flex event may be called.

By participating in Flex programs, you help support a reliable grid while earning rewards. Flex events are what we call periods when PSE predicts heightened demand for electricity based on a range of different criteria.

Once you’ve enrolled your EV charger or EV, PSE will send a remote signal to either your vehicle or charger that will pause charging for a short time during Flex events. PSE calls Flex events based on a variety of factors when reducing electricity demand would help support the grid. 

Yes, you can always choose not to participate in a Flex event by manually adjusting your charging. You are always in control and PSE will never lock your vehicle or device from charging.

Flex events will only occur during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will never take place on holidays (see list below). Winter events can occur from Nov. 1 to March 31 and summer events can occur from May 1 to Sept. 30.

No, modifying your vehicle’s charging during Flex events is 100% voluntary for customers. There is no requirement to participate.

If inaccurate customer or account information is provided during the sign-up process, it can result in a failed enrollment. If this happens, you may be notified by your manufacturer or Uplight of what went wrong. You will receive your enrollment reward in the form of a gift card within four to six weeks. You also receive $0.50 for each kWh reduced during Flex events, which is paid out monthly. For Ford, BMW and Honda/Acura customers, you will receive your reward via PayPal or Venmo.

Yes! You can get assistance through PSE’s contractor network of Recommended Energy Professionals. Just log in with your PSE account and select “EV Charger” under product category. If you have yet to purchase a charger, these contractors can also provide an instant rebate for qualified Level 2 chargers at the time of installation. Eligible income-qualified customers can receive incentives for installation as well as enhanced instant rebates for Level 2 chargers. Get a referral today.

Your vehicle or charger uses Wi-Fi to communicate with PSE, similar to how it communicates with your phone when you adjust it remotely.

Yes. PSE takes the responsibility to maintain the confidentiality and security of customer information seriously. Data collected in the Flex EV program may include:

• Charging status
• Charging rate
• Charging duration
• Total energy used
• Plug status (plugged in or not)
• Location during each charging session each day during the term (only for customers who enroll through their EV's onboard telematics)

Energy savings are calculated for each Flex event using a baseline. This baseline is created by averaging your energy consumption from previous days during the Flex event timeframe before the event. Your Event savings are based on an industry standard calculation and may be updated or changed by PSE at any time without notice.
